Dr. Messaoud Ahmed-Ouameur, RF Technical Leader
Dr. Messaoud Ahmed-Ouameur received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Institute national d’électronique et d’électricité (INELEC) in Boumerdes, Algeria in 1998. In 2002 and 2006, he went on to receive masters and Ph.D degrees with honours in electrical engineering from the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR) in Trois-Rivières, QC, Canada. He also received a master’s degree with honours in business administration (MBA) in 2000 from the Graduate School of International Studies at AJOU University in Souwan, South Korea.
From 2001 to 2006, Ahmed worked for Axiocom Inc. as the Director of Research and Development. His research included wireless communications, spread-spectrum systems, iterative (turbo) detection, channel estimation, smart antennas, Monte Carlo techniques for signal processing, and real-time very-large-scale integration (VLSI) issues.
Ahmed joined Nutaq in November 2006. As a Nutaq RF Technical Leader, his tasks involve radio transceiver system design and analysis in a variety of areas, including GSM, LTE and WCDMA compliance, embedded signal processing algorithm design and implementation, and radio transceiver prototyping from antenna to baseband (PHY) processing. Ahmed provides technical guidance for cognitive radio and massive MIMO research at major universities, including INRIA-Lion and INRS-Montreal. Ahmed is also involved in radio network planning, analysis and optimization for GSM, WCDMA, and LTE, cognitive radio, TV white space (TVWS) technology, and massive MIMO design, performance analysis and prototyping.
In terms of specific Nutaq projects, Ahmed was responsible for the design and implementation of the synchronization module for the ADACSync and the data acquisition modules on the ADAC250 and MI125 Wideband. He designed the high-band and improved the low-band of Nutaq’s small form factor (SFF) software-defined radios (SDR) and the Radio420X. An expert in Agile radio design, Ahmed provided the 3 to 8 GHz local oscillator design for defense customers.

His understanding of wireless communication systems is rooted in having shared experiences with both academia and industry. He works closely with FPGA, software and hardware technical leaders to develop complex next-generation wireless communication systems that continuously move RF technologies forward.
